13Andhestoodonthesandofthesea.AndIsawabeastascendoutofthesea,havingtenhornsandsevenheads,andonhishornstendiadems,andonhisheadsnames]ofblasphemy.
2AndthebeastthatIsawwaslikealeopard,andhisfeetwereasabear's,andhismouthasthemouthofalion.Andthedragongaveuntohimhismight,andhisthrone,andgreatpower.
3Andoneofhisheadsasifslaintodeath,andtheplagueofhisdeathwashealed.Andthewholeearthwonderedafterᵒthebeast.
4Andtheyworshippedthedragon,becausehegavethepoweruntothebeast,andtheyworshippedthebeast,saying,Whoislikethebeast,andwhoisabletowarwithhim?
5Andtherewasgivenuntohimamouthspeakinggreatthingsandblasphemies,andtherewasgivenuntohimpowertoactforty[and]twomonths.
6AndheopenedhismouthinblasphemiesagainstGod,toblasphemehisname,andhistabernacle,thosewhotabernacleinheaven.
7[Anditwasgivenuntohimtomakewarwiththesaintsⁱandtoovercomethem,]andtherewasgivenuntohimpowerovereverytribe,andpeople,andtongue,andnation.
8Andallwhodwellontheearthwillworshiphim,whosenameisnotwritteninthescrolloflifeoftheLambslainfromthefoundationoftheworld.
9Ifanymanhasanear,lethimhear.
10Ifanymanistogointocaptivity,intocaptivityhegoes:ifanymanistobekilledwiththeshort-sword,withtheshort-swordheistobekilled.Hereisthepatienceandthefaithofthesaintsⁱ.
11AndIsawanotherbeastascendoutoftheearth,andhehadtwohornslikealamb,andhespokeasadragon.
12Andhedoesallthepowerofthefirstbeastbeforehimandcausestheearthandthosewhodwellthereintoworshipthefirstbeast,whoseplagueofdeathwashealed.
13Andhedoesgreatsigns,sothatheevenmakesfirecomedownoutofheaventotheearthbeforethemen,
14anddeceivesthosewhodwellontheearthbecauseofthesignswhichitwasgivenuntohimtodobeforethebeast,sayinguntothosewhodwellontheearth,thattheyshouldmakeanimageuntothebeastwhohastheplagueoftheshort-sword,anddidlive.
15Anditwasgivenuntohimtogivespirituntotheimageofthebeast,thattheimageofthebeastshouldbothspeakandcause[that]asmanyaswouldnotworshiptheimageofthebeastshouldbekilled.
16Andhecausesall,thesmallandthegreat,andtherichandthepoor,andthefreeandthebond-servants,thattheyshouldgivethemamarkontheirrighthand,orontheirforehead,
17andthatnoneshouldbeabletobuyorsell,excepthewhohasthemark,[–/or]thenameofthebeastorthenumberofhisname.
18Hereisthewisdom.Lethimwhohasmindcalculatethenumberofthebeast,foritisthenumberofaman,andhisnumberissixhundred[sixty/ten]six.
